Summer Bummer Running Blues

Well, another summer has arrived and -- running-wise -- I am not enjoying it as much as I used to. In the last few years, the combination of heat and humidity has become my kryptonite. I do not remember my summer training runs feeling as sluggish or lethargic as they do in recent weeks.

I'll concede that it very plausible that age has something to do with it. I'm no spring chicken and I'm no the runner I was 20-30 years ago. Just like a spinning top, I am steadily slowing down! For the past month, I don't feel like the runner I was two months ago!

SPOTLIGHT RACES OF THE MONTH

Magnolia Run 5K - August 23
The Magnolia Run has been held for more than 30 years. This year's run takes place at Perimeter Mall again and will start at 7:00 a.m. The run is held to help bring awareness and support to the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia. With mover than 900 runners last year, this year's race looks to be another great event for a great cause.

FireED Up 5K - August 30
The 8th Annual FirED Up! 5K will take place on August 30 this year in Atlanta's Virginia Highland area. The race is held to help fund college scholarships for eligible Grady and Washington High School graduating seniors. Also, don't worry if it is hot that morning, runners will have a chance to get hosed down by the local fire station to cool off!
