DAN WILLIAMS COMPLETE A RACE IN EVERY GEORGIA COUNTY
A 28 year journey ended in February when Kennesaw State University professor Dan Williams ran a 5K in Echols County on February 7. In 1987, Dan Williams ran his first race in Georgia. Shortly after that race Dan set the goal to run an organized race in every county. He was inspired by his father-in-law, the late Dr. George W. Comstock, who made it a goal to photograph every county courthouse in the state. Dr. Comstock's collection was donated to the Atlanta Historical Society.
Williams challenge to run in every county was tough since there are 159 counties (second most out of any state, only Texas has more) and many don't hold organized races annually. By 2003 he had completed 130 counties. Dan hunted and hunted and kept a watchful eye on those last 29 counties. Dan and some other formed "County Hunters" to search for races and even to put a few races. Over the past 12 years he was able to slowly knock them off his list.
During Dan's 28 year journey he set some other goals as well. He wants to run a race in every state and every state capital. He continues to work on those goals and help others achieve their goals of running in all the counties.
